Sending Expired Coupons to Overseas Navy Base

During the summer months, I enjoy spending the little extra time to send my expired coupons overseas.  Did you know you can send expired coupons to overseas military bases?  The program is called the Overseas Coupon Program (OCP) and serves the military and their families.  They can use the coupons up to six months expired so it is important not to send anything more than two months expired.

I am sending out over $44 worth of expired groceries coupons and over $157 expired household coupons for $1.14 to Atsugi, Japan.  There is a Navy base there and it was where my brother was stationed for quite some time when he first joined.  It is inexpensive to send via First Class Mail as long as you keep the ounces lower.

Here's how you can participate:

  1. Pick a base and then adopt the base (so they know you plan to send coupons)
  2. Sort expired coupons by Food and Non-Food
  3. Total (estimate) the batch by dollar amount
  4. Place each batch in a separate envelope
  5. Send a report to OCP
If you would like to learn how to do the same, visit the Overseas Coupon Program website.
