Kindergarten Stories

Jakob took his first field trip with his class to the fire station two weeks ago.  The fire station is down the road from the school and they were able to walk to the fire station.  Here's some of the work he brought home after the field trip.

Below are a list of sight words Jakob has been learning in Kindergarten.  He has done pretty well with them and enjoys finding them when we read books!  It has gotten to the point where I have to let him look for the words first, then read the pages!  Otherwise, he will focus on finding the words instead of listening!
  • List 1 - 2: we, run, a, can, play, I (Sept.1-12)
  • List 3 - 4: like, cat, to, and, dog (Sept.13-27)
  • List 5 - 6: the, not, you, do, want (Sept.27-Oct. 11)
  • List 7 - 8: all, here, big, is, little (Oct. 11-24)
Jakob got his haircut about a week ago.  He really needed a haircut and looks so much better after a cut.  Isn't he so cute?  I really need to get better with not waiting as long as we do between his haircuts!  The last time he got a haircut was right before the first day of school!  He told me today he likes it to stand up the day of his haircut, but not other days!  Too funny.

My Guy

This week's song challenge over at Scrap It With a Song is My Guy by The Supremes.  The lyrics are up on the blog. You can take whatever inspires you from this song, the words, the title or the overall theme of the song. Upload your creations onto the Scrap It With A Song blog by Sunday and you could be this week's winner.

The picture of Jeff and I was taken at my grandparents house in Austin.  It was the day before Christmas and we have been taking them yearly.  We were married on October 19, 2002, so this picture marks seven years married.

I used paper from Coordinates Collections and Scrap A-Little Sketches #22 for my inspiration.

Jeff's 33rd Birthday

I finished work early and left school to go to Wal-Mart to surprise Jeff with something for his birthday.  When I got home, he said he saw me at the light to turn left to head toward Wal-Mart!  I couldn't believe the timing.  I ended up getting a chocolate cheesecake sample and a small individual white cake for Jakob to eat.  I suspected he would not be happy with the cheesecake, and I ended up being correct.  :)  Jeff turned 33 on Thursday!

Jeff received this card from his co-workers from work.

Jeff received this card from his grandmother, Donna, in Florida.

This card came from Jeff's work.  It was cute and says, Cake-Check, Presents-Check, Balloons-Check!
Jeff received this card from his parents.  It's cute and too funny since we play those games together when we got to one of the Abilene pizza places!

Jeff received this card from my parents.  My mom really enjoys the song cards!  When you open it up, it plays, "You Know You Make Me Want to SHOUT".

8 years ago on October 19, I married my best friend.  Let's take a trip down memory lane.  :)

I found out after the wedding, my brother, Randy, and his friend, John, played security at my wedding!  I couldn't stop laughing when my mom told me the story!

I really love this picture!  It amazes me to look at this picture and know Cherokee is in the 9th grade now.  I still remember how excited she was to be our flower girl.  She twirled around and really loved her dress.  She was so excited because our dresses looked similar! :)

Jeff and I danced to our song, "Hanging by a Moment" by Lifehouse.  The lyrics to the song are great for the two of us.

My mom sent us this card for our anniversary.

Jeff found this card and bought it for our anniversary.
Inside: ...and married me anyway!

Jeff's parents sent this card and it is too cute!

Jeff and I took the boys to go rock climbing with Jeff's brother.  It was the first time for the four of us to do this and it was fun.  Jakob climbed his height and the rest of us climbed the entire way!  It was a fun adventure and the whole family enjoyed the day and exercise challenge! Once Jakob started getting tired, Jakob helped by taking pictures.

I used scrapbook paper from Coordinates Collections to create my layout.  I used a September 2010 PageMaps sketch for inspiration.

Jakob was the ring bearer at my brother's wedding in California on July 31, 2010.  Jakob really enjoyed being all dressed up!  Read more about it on Vacation Day 1 and Vacation Day 2.  As I was listening to the song challenge this week, I thought about this picture and how perfect it went together!

I used the August 2010 Pagemaps sketch for the layout and scrapbook paper from Coordinates Collections to create my layout.

Here are a few pictures from  Randy and Nikki's big day on July 31, 2010!!

Jakob holding the ring bearer pillow!

Here is the wedding couple with our side of the family!

I really like this picture with my dad, Randy, and Jakob.

Kindergarten Stories: Week 7

Jeff and I had Jakob's parent/teacher conference last Monday, October 4, 2010.  He is doing well and on his overall pre-assessments he needs to primarily work on learning the sounds to each letter.  He knew majority of the capital and lower case letters.  His teacher mentioned knowing the lower case letters was really good because some students do not know the lower case starting off at the beginning!  Jakob has been doing well with the sounds as we work through each one.  It's really cute to see him to the acting out parts to some of the sounds.  For instance, for the sound /w/, he puts his hands out and starts saying the sound while acting like he's turning records!  For the sound /l/, he pretends to lick a lollipop as he makes the sound.  He really enjoys learning and doing well in school.  We also started giving him stickers to place on a calendar if he is on green at the end of the day.  At the conference, his teacher said his behavior is much better as he is really excited to get that sticker at the end of the day!!  At the end of the week if he has all the days filled up, we go get a small reward (slurpees, etc).  Below are other papers he brought home last week from school.

Menu Planning 10/10-10/16

It has been a little busy and I have not officially planned out our menus.  I can sure tell in the evenings when I am lost to what to do for dinner!  We are also at the end of our month and menus sure help us cook what we have in the house!  I also rejoined Weight Watchers last Monday and so far it has gone well.  A few recipes below I found using Weight Watchers and others are also from E-Mealz Any Store-Points Menu.  It feels good to get back on track!

Sunday: Spaghetti with Meat Sauce, Garlic Bread
Monday: P.F. Chang's Orange Chicken (9 pts)
Tuesday: Breaded Pork Cutlets (6 pts), Oven Roasted Potatoes (3 pts)
Wednesday: Chicken Quesadillas, Refried Beans
Thursday: Leftover Buffet
